We welcome enquiries from any interested swimmer aged 7 to 70+ years.
In our junior squads, Skills 1 and Skills 2, we concentrate on teaching swimmers the skills needed to become a competitive swimmer before progressing to our Development squad and then on to Competitive and Performance squads, swimming at Regional and National level. We also have a Youth Fitness session for teenagers aged 14-17 years who wish to swim once a week, perhaps to hone skills for their GCSE PE. At aged 17+ years, we encourage our Youths to progress towards our Masters Squad, where adults have different programmes suited to their abilities.
Swimmers have usually reached the standard of NPTS (National Plan for Teaching Swimming) Level 6 within the swim scheme or equivalent, whereby, following a further assessment to see how their technique is maintained over distance, they can become full members of Skills 1 squad. Younger swimmers who show a “feel for the water” can join our Nemo squad - here they swim once a week, in addition to their weekly swim-scheme lesson.
Welcome to West Suffolk Swimming Club.
We hope this will be the beginning of a long, enjoyable and successful career in competitive swimming. This guide is intended to answer questions swimmers and parents may have at this early stage.
Fees are paid monthly by standing order to the WSSC, except Culford pupils where fees will be aid directly to the school.
ASA fees are also requested annually (either cat 1 - £15, or cat 2 - £32.) Cat 1 - those swimmers under 9 years or those not ready or not wishing to enter open competition. Cat 2 - swimmers keen to enter open competition against other clubs.
A one-off joining fee is requested for each swimmer who joins us. This helps to cover administrative costs.
